Some of Australia’s leading experts will be joining the Expo for three days of lectures, demonstrations and workshops. All day every day they will talk the talk and walk the walk!

Colin Campbell, Annette McFarlane, Ross McKinnon, and Phil Dudman (to name but a few) will be on site each and every day to offer the best advice around. Join them and discover why gardening is the number one pastime in Australia.

Information - Information - Information

Practical, useful information abounds at the Expo on 7 Live Stages.  There is a fantastic range of gardening topics covered  with over 20 speakers presenting free talks and demos each day.  The Q & A Panel each afternoon in the Expo Centre Marquee is a great place to head  to get all your gardening questions answered or if you want more personal advice on any gardening problem or help with plant identification then the Plant Clinic is the place for you.  You will find experts on hand here all day to assist with all your queries.  All the nurseries exhibiting at the Expo are Members of Nursery and Garden Industry Qld and they have many years experience in their individual specialties.  They are happy to answer your questions.   There is also a number of Garden Club Groups specialising in Hibiscus, Orchids, Frangipani, Geraniums, Tropical Foliage Plants and more.  They are located in the Flora Society Marquee and have representatives on site throughout the expo.

    Host of 4BC Radio “Talking Gardening” Col needs little introduction to keen gardeners.  A regular at the Expo since its inception Col will not only be giving talks each day of the Expo but also broadcasting the hugely popular 4BC Radio “Talking Gardening” live from the Expo on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

  • Annette McFarlane

    ABC Radio Talkback host, Sunday Mail columnist and author of the very popular books “Successful Gardening in Warm Climates” and “Organic Vegetable Growing”.   In addition to this she also writes for ABC Organic Gardener,  Burke’s Backyard and Your Garden magazines.  Annette’s talks are always very popular and her knowlege on all things gardening in South East Queensland is extensive.

  • Ross McKinnon

    Curator of the Brisbane Botanical Gardens.  Ross has been an Expo regular for a number of years and will be presenting a number of interesting talks during the Expo that are sure to be both informative and entertaining.

  • Paul Plant

    Paul Plant (FAIH)  Editor of Queensland’s own, subTropical Gardening magazine, Paul has also sub-edited 19 gardening books and is well known on radio and in the Ipswich Advertiser newspaper. Paul focuses on local information for local gardeners across print, radio and web. In addition to being a plant collector he also experiments to find out what really will grow here and what will not.

     

  • Phil Dudman

    Phil Dudman is a gardening writer and broadcaster based in northern New South Wales. He is the author of the popular book series ‘The Garden Guru - Top Tips from Australian Gardeners’  and TV presenter with Channel 9’s ‘The Garden Gurus’.  Phil’s radio programme ‘Good Gardening’ is broadcast on ABC North Coast 94.5FM.

    Judy Horton Communications Manager at Yates and Member of the Australian Institute of Horticulture and the Horticultural Media Association. Judy has had extensive experience in the nursery industry, and has written two gardening books and many articles for gardening magazines.  Judy will moderate the Q & A panel at 2.00pm each day at the Expo Centre Stage Marquee.
     

    Nick Hansa of the highly regarded Fairhill Native Plant Nursery at Yandina, has had a long association with Queensland Home Garden Expo.  Nick has an extensive knowledge of Australian Native Plants.  As well as his daily talks, Nick and the Fairhill team are also happy to answer questions at the Fairhill Site throughout the Expo.

    Peter Young is an internationally renowned Fruit Tree expert and he will be giving daily talks in the Birdwood Lecture MarqueeGrowing. Peter will tell you everything you need to know, including how to deal with pests and diseases, fertilising and pruning your fruit trees. His talks are always entertaining and he is available at the Birdwood site throughout the Expo to answer questions.

    Peter Heaton is the man to ask about ferns and indoor plants.  Heaton’s Fern Nursery is well known throughout Australia for their quality ferns and Peter will be presenting two talks every day of the Expo in the Shadehouse Feature under the grandstand. 

     

    Rod Hultgren is a keen rose grower and he has been growing and exhibiting roses for 25 years.  He is a qualified judge and has regularly judged at rose shows. Rod has also been conducting Gardening Talkback on ABC Radio on Saturday mornings for the past 15 years.


    Darryl Baptie
    is the owner of Camellia Glen Nursery at Palmwoods on the Sunshine Coast.  Darryl has been a member of the Camellia Association for many years and has been a judge at numerous shows.  If you would like to know more about growing camellias in Queensland be sure to catch one of Darryl’s talks.

    Jerry Coleby-Williams
    is a well-known ABC Gardening Australia personality. A horticulturalist, he is passionate about organic gardening and seed saving.  Jerry will open the Giant Kitchen Garden Program on Friday morning and follow up with another great talk on the Expo Centre Stage.

    Jade Woodhouse is a passionate permaculturist and runs workshops from her property in Northern NSW.  Jade has taken an active part in the Giant Kitchen Garden since its inception.  Her talks on Friday and Saturday are, as always, sure to be entertaining and informative.

     

    Rosina Buckman is an enthusiastic and experimental gardener.  She won the Council’s Living Smart award for edible landscapes in 2009 for her ingenious ways of growing everything from pineapples in pots to leafy greens at the height of summer on her small suburban block using Permaculture principles.   As a result of that, she was recruited to run workshops through the public libraries on how to grow your own vegies. 


    Jeff and Frances Michaels
    started Green Harvest Organic Gardening Supplies in 1992 as a home based mail order and education business. Combining interests and qualifications in permaculture, horticulture, eco living and sustainability they have conducted many educational courses. Make sure you catch one of Jeff’s Garden Rambles in the Giant Kitchen Garden.

     

    Sonya Wallace is coordinator of both Transition Sunshine Coast, and her local initiative Transition Town Eudlo and is one of the pioneers of the Transition movement in Australia. She is a Permaculture and Transition Town educator.

     

    Robyn Ford stumbled upon Permaculture when she moved to the Sunshine Coast from Darwin 10 years ago.  Since then she has been busy converting the beautifully landscaped exotic garden she shares with a friend into a sub tropical food forest.  Robyn will be sharing some tips for growing perennial veggies in the Giant kitchen Garden on Saturday.

     

    Elisabeth Fekonia is an accredited permaculture teacher and has been practicing self sufficient living - Elisabeth runs the Maroochy Community Permaculture Group Inc

     

    Sean Morrow is a Landscape Designer who works with permaculture principles. Sean’s company One Earth Landscaping will be creating a display garden at the entrance to the Giant Kitchen Garden and Sean will be giving talks on how to create native bird and frog habitats.

     

    Leonie Shanahan is a permaculturist who specialises in developing permaculture/organic gardens in schools on the Sunshine Coast.

     

    Barb Wickes is passionate about herb and cottage gardens and enthusiastically promotes this style of gardening in SEQ. Some years ago she established a cottage garden group in the region
