COUNTDOWN TO 2008 QLD HOME GARDEN EXPO
It's only five weeks to go till the gates open for the 24th Qld Home Garden Expo and we are very excited about what is promising to be the best Garden Expo ever.  There will be some inspirational display gardens and a vast array of plants including some new and special releases on display at the Expo for the first time.

NEW in 2008 will be a fantastic Photographic Exhibition put together by the team at About the Garden magazine.
There will also be details of a Photography Competition to be introduced at the 2009 Expo.  This will be a must see exhibit for the keen shutterbugs who combine an interest in gardening and photography. Find out how you can be involved next year. 

FLORAL DESIGN COMPETITION
The Nambour Floral Art Group will once again be staging their annual Floral Design Competition and Display at the Expo.  This is a very keenly contested competition with entries from acrosss Sth. East Queensland.  You are sure to be inspired by the fabulous floral creations to be found upstairs in the pavilion located near the main entrance.  If you are interested in entering the competition all the details and entry form can be found on our website. click here for more information

EXPERTS & GREEN THUMBS
Information is a key component of the Qld Home Garden Expo and this year we are pleased to present over 120 free lectures and demonstrations over the three days.  Leading gardening experts and industry professionals will be covering a vast array of topics and will be available throughout the Expo to answer your gardening questions.The following is a short profile of two of the speakers who will be speaking each day.
Peter Young is an internationally renowned Fruit Tree expert and he will be giving daily talks on Growing Fruit Trees in Containers for Patios and Small Gardens. Peter will tell you everything you need to know, including how to deal with pests and diseases, fertilising and pruning your fruit trees.  Peter was recently invited to Oman by the United Nations to set up a Certified Mango Nursery Program.  He is also involved in international mango, avocado, lychee and persimmon groups and regularly attends conferences around the world.  Peter established the very successful Birdwood Fruit Tree Nursery on the Sunshine Coast 30 years ago.  His talks are always entertaining and he is available at the Birdwood site throughout the Expo to answer questions.
Shaun O'Brien is the Director and Senior Research Scientist of Vitroflora Pty Ltd based at Woombye on the Sunshine Coast.  Vitroflora is a research and developement company working on breeding and developing new plant varieties, both native and exotic.   Shaun will be giving daily talks about plant tissue culture, plant breeding and some of the new varieties that have been developed.  Don't miss Shaun's talks if you have ever wondered how new plant varieties are developed.
